Technical Architect
£70–100k per year
About the role
Astuco is looking for an experienced Technical Architect who excels at turning complex requirements into secure, scalable, and high-performing technical solutions. You’ll work closely with a collaborative team, combining strategic oversight with hands-on involvement to design architectures that meet both business and technical needs. You’ll have the freedom to innovate, build prototypes, develop proof-of-concepts, and guide engineers, ensuring that every solution is robust, efficient, and aligned with our clients’ objectives. This role requires both a deep technical understanding of infrastructure and systems, and the ability to communicate architectural decisions clearly to stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and oversee the implementation of end-to-end technical architectures across cloud, hybrid, and on-premise environments.
- Collaborate with Application and Service Architects to ensure functional and non-functional requirements are met.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and support technicians.
- Define and maintain architectural standards, best practices, and technical roadmaps to guide delivery teams.
- Support the full IT infrastructure lifecycle (planning, design, deployment, monitoring, ongoing operational management).
- Create prototypes, demos, and proof-of-concepts to validate technical approaches.
- Participate in estimation, planning, and risk management to deliver projects on time and within quality standards.
- Produce and review high- and low-level designs for coherence, technical quality and continuous improvement.
- Identify capability gaps in existing architectures and recommend enhancements aligned with Agile and continuous-improvement methodologies.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Create clear, concise technical documentation.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience as a Technical Architect / Private Cloud Architect with significant enterprise infrastructure design and delivery experience.
- Strong experience delivering enterprise-scale solutions across Windows, Linux and cloud.
- Hands-on VMware expertise (vSphere, vSAN, NSX, Aria Suite); VMware VCP or equivalent preferred.
- Deep Windows platform services knowledge (Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, PKI, ADFS, WSUS).
- Experience/understanding of containerisation, identity management, lifecycle management.
- Track record designing/implementing scalable, secure, highly available systems (greenfield builds and application upgrades).
- Strong understanding of IaaS, PaaS, DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines and automation/orchestration tooling.
- Experience producing HLD/LLD, solution architecture documentation and operational runbooks.
- Strong networking, load balancing and SDN knowledge.
- Agile/Scrum experience with DevSecOps tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Git).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Familiarity with Zero Trust and CIS/NCSC hardening.
