Network Engineer
£650–700 per day (Inside IR35)
About the role - Overview
The Network Engineering Service will support the technical team responsible for the design, development, documentation, building and validation of the core physical and virtual networking components which form the backbone of a significant defence programme. The detailed responsibilities of the team include:
- Design, development, building and validation of all networking components which form part of the platform.
- Production and review of all levels of design artefacts.
- Supporting wider programme system-testing activities.
- Working with Service Management to resolve issues.
Essential skills, qualifications & experience
At least 3 years in the industry with detailed knowledge of design, implementation and troubleshooting of: hierarchical IP subnetting; routing protocols (internal and external - OSPF, BGP); advanced knowledge of routers, switches and firewalls. Core network technologies and infrastructure: Cisco Nexus, Cisco IOS XE, Leaf-and-Spine architecture, VXLAN overlay networks, Dual-Cloud Dual-Hub DMVPN solutions, Firewall IPS/IDS, AAA management platform (e.g. ISE), VXLAN, TRL Crypto, configuration of devices and keymat management, and all aspects of QoS (traffic shaping / policing / scheduling / congestion management and avoidance).
At least one certification within the last five years: at least CCNP (networking) or similar; VMware VCP-NV (network virtualisation). Also: strong communication; strong analytical skills; valid SC clearance; MS Office competency.
Desirable
Public-sector experience (preferably Defence, ideally Defence Digital); Defence networks and gateways; delivering accredited secure solutions in the UK Public Sector; Agile (SAFe4) and Waterfall delivery; large virtualisation environments at scale; Atlassian toolset (JIRA, Confluence); a Computer Science degree (Bachelors or Masters); secure architecture in a multi-tenanted environment; Chartered Engineer status.
